What is FET?
Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) is an advanced fertility treatment where embryos created during a previous IVF or ICSI cycle are frozen and stored for future use. When the couple is ready, these embryos are carefully thawed and transferred into the woman’s uterus at the optimal time for implantation. This procedure allows couples to make use of previously created embryos without undergoing another complete IVF cycle.
Who Needs FET?
FET is recommended for couples and individuals in various situations, such as:
Couples with surplus embryos from an earlier IVF/ICSI cycle
Women who wish to delay pregnancy for personal, health, or career reasons
Patients who faced medical complications during the initial IVF cycle and couldn’t proceed with embryo transfer
Couples who prefer genetic screening before embryo transfer
Women with thin endometrial lining during the fresh cycle
Couples seeking to plan and time their pregnancy more conveniently
Benefits of FET
Less invasive: Avoids repeating ovarian stimulation and egg retrieval.
Cost-effective: Utilizes embryos already created, reducing the cost of treatment.
High success rates: Offers excellent pregnancy rates when embryos are frozen and thawed using advanced techniques.
Flexible timing: Allows couples to plan pregnancy according to health, recovery, or personal convenience.
Safer for women with complications: Reduces risks in cases where fresh transfer might not be advisable.
The FET Process
Cycle Preparation: The woman’s menstrual cycle is tracked, and medications may be prescribed to prepare the uterus.
Endometrial Monitoring: Ultrasound and hormonal tests ensure the uterus is ready for embryo implantation.
Embryo Thawing: Frozen embryos are thawed with precision in the embryology lab.
Embryo Transfer: The best-quality thawed embryo is placed into the uterus using a simple, painless procedure.
Pregnancy Test: After about two weeks, a blood test confirms if implantation was successful.
